Last month C and I decided to take a long weekend and do some stuff around Al Ain and Dubai before Ramandan started. For our friends that don’t know, our weekend falls on a Friday and Saturday, so a long weekend is something more like a mid-week break back home. On the Thursday morning we went for a sunrise picnic in the desert. We drove out to some dunes and found that 5:30 to 6:30 in the morning is a really amazing time to be awake and out and about when living in the desert! It gets hot pretty quickly here though so when we felt the heat rising we swiftly headed back to the car and drove home in our well protected little air con bubble!

We took way too much food for two people but it was totally awesome! It was great being outside, munching on some chocolate croissants and just enjoying the beauty around us. We took a couple of photos while we were at it but it might be nice next time to just head out with a camera and some coffee as all the eating took up most of our time 🙂

We spent the rest of the day watching series and sleeping (we are not natural early risers to say the least) and in the afternoon we had a Fourth of July celebration/get together at a friend’s house. Lots of food and great people!

On Friday we headed out to Dubai and we spent two nights there. We stayed in nice hotel, slept in, went to beach, watched old movies and had awesome curry at an Indian restaurant around the corner. The UAE really has amazing Indian restaurants and somehow I have been lucky enough to enjoy curry whenever I feel like it (which is sometimes three times a week ;-)), 35weeks pregnant and counting. We also checked out the Pavilion in Downtown Dubai on Saturday evening – what an amazing space! I must say Al Ain is not one of the most designerly places on earth so I was super stoked to be in a space with clean, beautiful design. One of the exhibitions on show called ‘Breathing Walls’ by Rhea Karam is definitely worth checking out. The gallery was closed for most of July and beginning of August and I am really looking forward to going back there now that it is open again.

The rest of the weekend is a bit of a blur..I have a feeling losing hours of my life shopping in Ikea had something to do with it…ok but seriously that store is pretty awesome and if you are not careful you can lose a lot of time and money in there!
